Control in the hands of the Creators

One of the major concerns at the VCU School of Engineering is how to allow faculty members to best promote themselves and their research through the web. The proposed solution had to allow for faculty members to easily control their site and content, while still retaining the brand standards and requirements of the central university.

The solution reached was to develop a set of templates in conjunction with University Relations within the VCU ALTLab's Wordpress instance. This would allow the faculty to easily request and manage sites without the lengthy training that TerminalFour would require.

Each requested site can be modified with minimal knowledge of HTML and CSS, using the rich text editor built into Wordpress. Sites can be modified with various drop down options to change the site icon, header color, and other branding to match specific departments or have a general VCU design.

Currently as of launch in late January 2018, there are over 25 sites being created and managed by faculty members to represent and promote their labs.
